Abstract
This document has been prepared as a format guide for authors of presentations to be made at the 16th IFRF Members' Conference to be held on the 8-10 June 2009 in Boston, USA.
When completed, an electronic copy of the formatted document should be sent by email attachment (contained in a ZIP file) to Tracey Biller – tracey.biller@ifrf.net. In order to allow the timely preparation of the Conference Proceedings, please submit your manuscript not later than May 24, 2009.
1 General Guidelines
Paragraph text should be written in Times New Roman, 11 point and ‘justified’ as this paragraph is formatted. Begin paragraphs flush at the left margin without indentation. Do not leave a blank line between paragraphs. Leave one blank line between sections and subsections but not between the section/subsection titles and text.
2 SECTION Titles
Section headings should be aligned left and numbered sequentially with a tab space before the section title. Text in the section heading should be Times New Roman, 11 point, boldface and UPPERCASE.
2.1 Subsection titles
Subsection titles should be aligned left and numbered sequentially following the number of the section and with a tab space before the subsection title. They should appear in Times New Roman, 11 point, and boldface and in sentence case.
Subsubsection title. Subsubheading titles should be placed at the beginning of a paragraph in boldface. Capitalize only the first letter of the title and follow it by a period and two letter spaces; then begin typing the text on the same line and continue the text without indenting. Leave one line space above.
2.2 Page setup
Page should be setup as A4 size (210 x 297 mm) with the margin settings as shown in Table 1. This document has been formatted with these margins
| Margin | Width (cm) |
Top |
2.54 |
Bottom |
2.54 |

3.17 |

3 Length
Due to the large number of papers to be included in the Conference Proceedings we ask that the total length of your paper, including all figures, tables and references, should be no more than 15 pages for contributed papers and no more than 20 pages for invited keynote papers
4 Tables and figures
Figure and table captions should be Times New Roman 11 point, boldface, centered. Initially capitalize only the first word of each figure caption and table title. Figures and tables must be numbered separately.
Figure and table captions should be shown directly below the relevant figure/table. For example:

All figures and tables should be embedded in the text at the appropriate position (not all placed at the end of the document).
Figures should be prepared in ‘black and white’ or ‘greyscale’ such that sufficient definition of information can be retained with black and white reproduction. Figure size should be large enough to convey information required but no larger than necessary (in order to minimise your file size!)
5 Equations, units, symbols, etc.
Equations should be typed, either in word text or using the equation editor, in the appropriate position with enough space above and below to distinguish them from the text. Equations should be either centered or placed flush left, and assigned a number that should appear in round brackets one tab space after the equation as shown in Equation 1.
E = mc2 (1)
Use of SI units for data is encouraged.
